Privacy Policy
Last updated: 7 October 2026
WHO I BECOME is an app made by Future Labs ("we", "us"). It helps you imagine and talk to the person you want to become. To do that, you share personal things with it: your goals, your fears, the people you love. This policy explains what we collect, why, who helps us process it, and the control you have over it.
The short version: we use what you tell the app only to run the app for you. We don't sell it, we don't use it for advertising, and we don't use your conversations or stories to train AI models. You can export or permanently delete everything at any time from inside the app.
What we collect
| What | Examples | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Account | Name, email address, a hashed password (never the password itself), or your Apple or Google sign-in identifier | To create your account and keep it secure |
| Your answers | What you shared during setup: who you want to become, where you live, your work, your relationship status, the first names of people who matter to you, your goals and what's holding you back | To create your Future Self and personalise everything it says |
| Content you create | Conversations with Future You, stories, goals and progress, daily messages and your replies | To show them to you and keep the conversation continuous |
| Memories | Short notes the app keeps from your conversations (for example, "afraid to leave their job") | So Future You remembers what matters to you. You can view and delete them in the app |
| Voice | What you say on a call | Your recording is converted to text and then discarded. We keep the text, not the recording |
| Generated audio | Narrated stories and spoken replies | So you can replay them without waiting |
| Subscription | Your plan and its status, from Apple or Google through RevenueCat | To unlock what you've paid for. We never see your card details |
| Usage and diagnostics | Counts of features used today or this month, error logs, and AI request metadata (model, timing, token counts) | To enforce plan limits, fix problems and control costs |
We don't collect your location, contacts, photos, or advertising identifiers, and we don't track you across other apps or websites.
Who processes your data for us
We use a small number of service providers. Each receives only what it needs to do its job for us, under terms that don't allow it to use your data for its own purposes.
| Provider | What it does | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| Google (Gemini API, paid service) | Writes Future You's replies, your stories and your Future Self | The relevant parts of your answers, memories, goals and conversation. Under Google's paid API terms this content isn't used to train Google's models |
| Deepgram | Turns your speech into text, and text into Future You's voice | Your call recordings (for transcription) and the text to be spoken |
| MongoDB Atlas | Stores your account and content in an encrypted database | Everything stored by the app |
| Our server (Hostinger) | Runs the app's backend and stores generated audio | Everything processed by the app |
| RevenueCat, Apple, Google | Handle purchases and subscriptions | An anonymous app user ID and your purchase status |
| Our email provider | Sends password reset emails | Your email address and name |
If we turn on product analytics in the future, it will only receive event names and counts (for example "story played"), never the content of your conversations, stories or answers.
AI and your content
- Future You is an AI simulation built from what you tell it. It is not a person and it doesn't know the future.
- We don't use your conversations, stories, answers or memories to train AI models, and we don't let our providers do so.
- To keep the service safe and working, a small number of authorised staff can access account data when investigating a problem you report, a safety concern, or abuse. Access is logged.
- The app looks for signs of serious distress in what you write so it can show crisis resources. That check happens inside the app's own systems.
How long we keep it
- Your account and content: until you delete them or your account.
- AI request metadata: 30 days, then automatically deleted.
- Voice recordings: not stored. They're held in memory only while being transcribed.
- Server logs: kept briefly for troubleshooting. They don't contain your conversations.
- Backups made by our database provider may hold deleted data for a short time until they expire.
Your choices and rights
- See and export: Settings → Privacy & your data → Export my data gives you a copy of everything we hold about you.
- Correct: you can edit your answers, goals and memories in the app.
- Delete: Settings → Privacy & your data → Delete account permanently deletes your account, Future Self, conversations, stories, audio, memories, goals and usage records. This can't be undone.
- Subscriptions: deleting your account doesn't cancel an App Store or Google Play subscription. Cancel it in your phone's subscription settings.
Depending on where you live (for example the EU, UK, India or California), you may have additional rights, such as to object to or restrict processing, or to complain to a data protection authority. Email us and we'll respond within 30 days. We process your data to provide the service you asked for (performing our contract with you), and on our legitimate interest in keeping the service secure and working.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and at rest in our database. Passwords are hashed. Access to production systems is restricted. No system is perfectly secure, so if we ever learn of a breach affecting you, we'll tell you as the law requires.
Children
WHO I BECOME is for people aged 16 and over. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone younger. If you believe a child has created an account, email us and we'll delete it.
International transfers
Our providers may process data in countries other than yours, including the United States and the European Union. Where required, we rely on standard contractual clauses or equivalent safeguards.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll tell you in the app before the change takes effect.
